Um... by the naming scheme used until Windows 3.x, Windows 7 would not be "Microsoft Windows 7.0". It's called "7" because it uses the NT 7.0 kernel. Seriously, I don't even use Window$ and I know that.

Yeah, as if you couldn't already tell who this is from.
:iconmegatoaster:
I thought it WAS the 7th version.

If you think hard enough, you may realize that you just had a thought.

Why should I know? I'm a Linux user.

Windows 1.x
Windows 2.x
Windows 3.x
Windows 95 (4?)
Windows 98 (5?)
Windows 98se (6?)
Windows ME (7?)
Windows 2000 (8?)
Windows XP (9?)
Windows Vista (10?)
Windows 7 (11?)

And that's not counting server editions or XP MCE.

well for some reason I have not heard of 98se or ME.

:iconchewanater:
Wait, apparently some have the same numbers (98, 98se, and ME were all 4.x). Windows 7 is 'codenames' 7, then Microsoft, being the idiots they are, released it as "Windows 7". The kernel version is actually 6.1.

Linux kernel version naming scheme FTW.
