Windows 7 Alternate Wallpaper by Spritanium Windows 7 Alternate Wallpaper by Spritanium
I was feeling nostalgic today.

I found the logo-less default wallpaper on Google Images. I thank its creator, whoever they may be.

Being a big fan of Win7 and Win98 I'm surprised I never thought of this - clever! I like it, and it looks well executed.

Pretty neat wallpaper! This wallpaper should be the default for users of legacy versions of Windows as Windows 2000 will no longer be supported at all later this year. :(

Everyone should be using Vista or 7 by now, honestly.

Everyone should be using GNU/Linux by now. It's what the real haxx0rz use.

YEAH! HIGH-FIVE! When they finally get Wine to work right, I'm switching to Linux permanently!

Wine does work right. Not perfectly, but you're better off using native software anyways.

Ah, but last time I tried Wine, everything worked fine, but the cursor was all screwy...

Also, the distro I used (Puppy Linux) decided "Oh, we're gonna take away the tgz2pet command! It's as if we don't want to support Wine!", so now it's a bit difficult to track down the PET edition of Wine to run on Puppy Linux.

Puppy Linux is the only linux that my old HP that was designed for Win98 can run! :dummy:

Ah... that's probably why Wine is scewier than usual. A pre-NT machine is gonna have trouble with an XP-inspired abstraction layer. Also, they do want people to stop using Wine. Some jealous Linux developers feel it's taking away from their market share by stopping people from completely switching the GNU and related software.

Is this a secondary machine? You could dual-boot (or completely reload) your primary Window$ one.

Yes, it is, but I still wanna wait for Wine to be working better before I completely switch to Linux. I'm a frequent Flash user (as evident by my gallery...), so a world without Flash might kill me.

people who don't know what drivers are shouldn't be allowed to even consider running it

Well, yeah...as for Windows 2000, there is no migration path to either Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2 or the upcoming Windows 8/Windows Server 2012 operating system. :(

I did use Windows Vista for a while until the GPU on the laptop blew up causing the laptop to stop working. As for Windows XP, did you know that there are still over one billion people (that's almost 15% of the world's population) using that operating system?

It would take a awfully long time to get every user around to work to use Windows Vista SP2 or Windows 7. Microsoft will under one condition only support Windows XP SP3 through April 2014.

I think some of the issue is the software compatibility, and that's why a lot of people aren't making the switch?

I also hear people say they can't afford to get anything up to date. :/

Correct. A lot of people aren't making the switch from Windows XP at this time for at least a couple of years and it all has to do with the software and hardware compatibility issues.

There will only be a small portion of users that will be stuck on Windows 2000, NT, 9x and Me as they cannot afford to upgrade or get a new PC at this time. :(
